Picking Blueberries with Papa Wu
On the way to pick up our new puppy Lola, a series of pick your own blueberry signs caught our eye. We came back a few days later with Papa Wu to see what it was all about.
We ended up at Abshier Farms to pick some blueberries. They have 15 varieties of blueberries with rows of bushes as far as the eye can see.
Our new friend Lucy gave us the grand tour and even passed along a cookbook filled with some great kid-friendly recipes.
The Florida sun was beating down so we hit a few rows and picked as many as we could. Papa Wu was showing the girls his picking technique - one for me, one for the bucket!
Lillie's bucket was lighter for some reason...
Lola was digging for a cool spot so we cut the trip short. We hope to come back on Saturday and pick some blackberries this time!

Grass Fed Beef Tasting - Foodbuzz 24x24
We attended our first Foodbuzz 24x24 event this past weekend - one of 24 documented meals in 24 hours from around the world. The hosts were our friends Peter and Christey at fotocuisine. Check out their clever recipes, photos and musings on some of the best tasting (and best looking) food around.
Please take a look at their 24x24 posting on fotocuisine to absorb and appreciate all the passion and effort that went into their grass fed beef tasting; from the ambitious menu and attention to detail to the whimsical table settings and world-class photography of the event.
Peter not only went to great lengths to create this amazing meal for us, but spent some time explaining the significant differences between industrial/feedlot and grass-fed beef. We tasted and then voted on fillet mignon with bĂ©arnaise sauce, skirt steak chimichurri, and mini burger “sliders” with a demi-glace mushroom sauce. YUM! In the end, the grass-fed beef was preferred although not by as much as I predicted. The delicious sauces helped even things out and by the time we got to the burgers, it was challenging to tell the difference between the two.
In the end, this kid-friendly event was enjoyed by all! Lillie and Sadie loved their grass fed mini burgers. Thanks again, Peter and Christey!
