Does this remind anyone else of a Bugs Bunny cartoon?

Welcome Bitzy
We adopted Bitzy the Barking Beagle about 3 weeks ago - She is 10 weeks old! Welcome to the family, Bitzy. Her name originally was Bit 'O Honey. Lillie was annoyed every time we tried to change the name. "Her name's Honey!" I thought Ginger was a good fit for a lemon and white beagle/kids food blog mascot - no luck....

FOOD FIGHT!
Here is something you don't see everyday; an invitation for kids to launch their peas and carrots across the dining room. Part sling shot and part spoon, this springy utensil (called a Zing) is right up my alley. Watch your back! Its made by the same guys that brought us our silicon doggie oven mitt!
denture ice cubes!
and the inventive chopstick kids!
Lillie: That's my doggie, Daddy!
Me: Are you sure?
Lillie: It IS my doggie, Daddy!
Me: What's his name?
Lillie: Doggie.
Me: Of course...

The Freshmaker
Everybody knows that fresh-squeezed juice is the way to go. Having trouble getting your kids to eat their veggies? Juice up a carrot with some apples and they will gulp it down. Carrot can be a little rough on the digestive system so I always cut it with some grapes or apple.
Lillie's favorite includes a small slice of ginger and a handful of fresh flat leaf parsley. The spicy earthiness of the ginger and the clean herbal taste of the parsley subtly compliment the sweetness of apple and carrot. I love the bitter tartness flavor the apple peel adds. Yummy.
Lillie's Juicy Jumble
1 or 2 carrots (depending on your love of all things carrot)
2 apples - quartered
big handful of grapes
small piece of ginger (or a large slice if you are a ginger lover like me!)
small handful of fresh flat leaf parsley
Throw each item into the juicer. I guess this isn't much of a recipe, is it?! Fast and delicious. Here are a few other favorites:
Purpleberry Delite
1 cup of blueberries
2 small pears - quartered
1/2 golden beet
What-a-melon Surprise
1/2 small watermellon - remove rind and cut into long slices
1 carrot
juice from 1/2 a lime (no rind)
Snozzleberry Punch
10 strawberries
2 small apples - quartered
1 small tangerine - keep rind on
Wedgie Water
1 celery stalk
1 cup grape tomatoes
1 carrot
1 garlic clove
handful of flat leaf parsley
splash of worcestershire sauce

Spring Garden 2008
The weather was beautiful on Sunday so Lillie and I planted our organic garden complete with a spooky scarecrow.
Our fall garden last year was pretty sparse due to some ravenous birdies. We took some old clothes and filled them with leaves.
Lilliepie was loving the dirt and all the digging.
I poked out some holes and gave her some big toe carrot seeds to plant - I'm pretty sure she put all 50 seeds in one hole and covered them over.
We planted sugar snap peas, beefsteak tomatoes, purple haze carrots, baby bok choy, broccoli raab, golden beets and a bazillion other veggies in our family garden using the square foot gardening technique. If you haven't heard of it, check it out! The crops I'm the most excited about are the pickle gherkins. I'd like the kids food blog to be filled with pickle recipes for a month! I have so many pickle ideas, its not even funny. The mango pickles are out for this season - a frost knocked our 15 foot mango tree down to a 6 foot tree and killed all the blooms. Boo hoo.
I'll post the garden progress as we go. Stay away Jack Frost!
